Shelby Industries was established in 1982 after the acquisition of the Valley Industries, Kentucky operation from The Scott Fetzer Company. Scott Fetzer constructed the present facility in the 1970’s and established Valley Industries in Kentucky to manufacture and distribute receiver hitches, trailer couplers, mechanical winches and various towing and trailering components.
In the early 1980’s Scott Fetzer decided to sell the Valley Industries business in Kentucky and published an advertisement in the local newspaper. Lalit Sarin, who immigrated to the United States from India, responded to the advertisement, raised the capital to purchase the business, promised local officials that he would keep jobs in Kentucky and personally “put it all on the line” to pursue his entrepreneurial ambition to own and operate a manufacturing company.
Since this beginning, for over a quarter of a century, Shelby has proven itself to be a leading, competitive U.S. manufacturer of towing, trailering, lifting and leveling equipment. Today, Shelby carries on as a successful, diverse second-generation business now owned and led by Lalit’s son, Vivek.
